Birmingham is a city I know well — it’s got one of the most varied housing stocks in the country, and that variety means standard off-the-shelf kitchen units often don’t do the job properly.

From the large detached homes in Edgbaston and Harborne to the Victorian terraces in Moseley and Kings Heath, the 1930s semis in Erdington and Hall Green, and the modern apartments in the Jewellery Quarter and Brindleyplace — every property type has different kitchen requirements. What they all have in common is that they deserve better than flat-pack chipboard from a trade depot.

Every unit I supply uses 18mm Egger or Kronospan carcasses with solid 18mm backs and Blum soft-close hardware as standard. They arrive at your Birmingham address fully assembled and ready for your fitter to install. Typically 30–50% cheaper than Howdens — and built to a significantly higher standard.

Birmingham has a lot of Howdens branches — but that doesn’t mean they’re your best option. Howdens requires a trade card, operates a confusing discount model, and their units are flat-pack. I supply direct to homeowners, with transparent pricing and rigid-built construction. The product is better, and the price is lower.

Birmingham’s housing stock demands made-to-measure. The city’s Victorian terraces in areas like Moseley, Kings Heath, and Balsall Heath often have non-standard kitchen dimensions. Post-war semis in Erdington and Handsworth have their own quirks. Made-to-order means your units fit properly — no awkward gaps, no filler panels to hide mistakes.

Blum soft-close as standard. Every unit comes with Blum soft-close hinges and drawer runners — the same hardware used by premium kitchen manufacturers. I don’t charge extra for it.

Large detached homes (Edgbaston, Harborne, Sutton Coldfield, Solihull) — These properties often have generous kitchen spaces that benefit from a full made-to-measure kitchen. Island units, larder towers, and tall wall cabinets all work well in these layouts.

Victorian and Edwardian terraces (Moseley, Kings Heath, Balsall Heath, Selly Oak, Stirchley) — Typically narrower kitchens with some awkward angles. Made-to-order units mean a seamless fit and no wasted space.

1930s semis (Erdington, Hall Green, Acocks Green, Yardley, Northfield) — Birmingham has a huge amount of 1930s semi-detached housing. These kitchens are often a good size but benefit enormously from a properly fitted, rigid-built kitchen.

Post-war and ex-council housing (Handsworth, Lozells, Nechells, Castle Vale) — Often have non-standard layouts and dimensions. Made-to-order means I can work around whatever the original builders left you with.

Modern apartments (Jewellery Quarter, Brindleyplace, Digbeth, Eastside) — Open-plan living means the kitchen is always on show. My handleless ranges look genuinely high-end in these spaces.

New-build estates (Sutton Coldfield, Solihull, Rubery, Longbridge) — Developer kitchens are often the first thing buyers replace. Upgrading to rigid-built units is one of the best investments you can make.

The right door style depends entirely on your property. The shaker ranges are incredibly popular for the larger 1930s semis in Bournville and detached homes in Edgbaston, whereas the handleless and slab doors tend to be the go-to for Jewellery Quarter apartments and modern extensions. Birmingham to Oldham is a straightforward run up the M6 and across the M62 — usually about two hours. Seeing the 18mm solid backs and Blum hardware in person tends to make the decision very easy.
