I’m Steve, and I supply rigid-built, made-to-order kitchen units to homes across Leeds and West Yorkshire from my small showroom in Oldham. Leeds is about an hour from us, and I’ve supplied a good number of kitchens across the city — from back-to-back terraces in Headingley to large detached homes in Roundhay and Alwoodley.

Leeds has a fantastic mix of housing. The Victorian back-to-backs and terraces in Hyde Park, Headingley, and Kirkstall are a world away from the large semis in Moortown and Horsforth, or the modern city centre apartments in the Calls and Holbeck. What they all have in common is that they deserve a kitchen that’s actually built properly — not flat-pack chipboard that’ll start to bow and sag within a few years.

Every unit I supply uses 18mm Egger or Kronospan carcasses with solid 18mm backs and Blum soft-close hardware as standard. Typically 30–50% cheaper than Howdens or Magnet, and built to a significantly higher standard. No trade card needed.

The product is better than what you’ll find at the big sheds. Howdens’ flat-pack units use 3mm hardboard backs. Mine use 18mm solid backs. That’s the difference between a unit that stays square and solid for 20 years and one that starts to flex within a few years. Leeds’ climate — cold winters, damp — means this matters more than you might think.

Made-to-measure for Leeds’ housing stock. The back-to-back terraces in Hyde Park and Headingley have some of the most awkward kitchen layouts you’ll find anywhere in the country. Standard units just don’t fit properly. Made-to-order means your units fit from wall to wall, every time.

Back-to-back terraces (Hyde Park, Headingley, Burley, Armley, Beeston) — Some of the most compact kitchens in the country. Made-to-order units are essential here — standard sizes simply won’t work in many of these layouts.

Victorian and Edwardian terraces (Kirkstall, Chapel Allerton, Meanwood, Harehills) — Slightly larger than back-to-backs but still benefit enormously from made-to-measure units. Typically galley or L-shape layouts.

1930s semis (Horsforth, Pudsey, Morley, Rothwell, Garforth) — Leeds has a large amount of 1930s semi-detached housing. These kitchens are often a good size and are ideal for a full rigid-built kitchen refit.

Large detached homes (Roundhay, Moortown, Alwoodley, Wetherby) — Generous kitchen-diner spaces that benefit from island units, larder towers, and full-height wall cabinets. Made-to-measure means every inch is used properly.

City centre apartments (The Calls, Holbeck, Granary Wharf, Clarence Dock) — Open-plan living with the kitchen as a focal point. My handleless and slab ranges look genuinely high-end in these spaces.

Student rental properties (Hyde Park, Headingley, Burley) — Landlords across Leeds know that a decent kitchen makes a property significantly more lettable. Rigid-built units are a long-term investment that holds up to tenant use.

Leeds properties need different approaches. A traditional shaker kitchen looks fantastic in a Roundhay semi or a period property in Chapel Allerton, while the handleless ranges are perfect for maximising space in Headingley back-to-backs or city centre flats. The showroom is worth the trip. It’s at Unit N, Central Trading Estate, Coulton Close, Oldham, OL1 4EB. Leeds to Oldham is a straight run over the M62 — under an hour in normal traffic. Seeing the 18mm solid backs and Blum hardware in person is a different experience to looking at photos online.
