I’m Steve, and I supply rigid-built, made-to-order kitchen units to homes across Greater Manchester from my small showroom in Oldham. If you’re in Manchester, you’re practically on my doorstep — and that means I know this city’s housing stock inside out.

Greater Manchester has some of the most varied housing in the country. Victorian terraces in Didsbury and Chorlton, mill conversions in Salford and Ancoats, 1930s semis in Stockport and Wigan, modern apartments in the city centre and MediaCityUK, and large detached homes in Altrincham and Hale. Every one of those property types has different kitchen requirements — and every one of them deserves better than flat-pack chipboard from a trade depot.

I’ve been supplying kitchens across Greater Manchester for years. The product I supply is built to a genuinely higher standard than anything you’ll find at Howdens, Wren, or Magnet — and it costs 30–50% less. Every unit uses 18mm Egger or Kronospan carcasses with solid 18mm backs and Blum soft-close hardware as standard.

Why Manchester Homeowners Choose SJB for Kitchen Units

I’m local. My small showroom is in Oldham — right on the edge of Greater Manchester. I know the housing stock, I know the local fitters, and I understand what Manchester homeowners need. When you call me, you’re not speaking to a call centre in a business park somewhere — you’re speaking to me, Steve, in Oldham.

The product is genuinely better than Howdens. Howdens’ flat-pack units use 3mm hardboard backs. Mine use 18mm solid backs. That’s not a minor difference — it’s the difference between a unit that stays square and solid for 20 years and one that starts to bow and flex within a few years of installation. In Manchester’s climate, where damp and temperature variation are just part of life, this matters.

Made-to-measure for Manchester’s housing stock. Victorian terraces in Chorlton and Didsbury, back-to-backs in Salford, 1930s semis in Stockport and Wigan — none of these have perfectly standard kitchen dimensions. Made-to-order means your units fit properly, every time.

No trade card needed. Howdens won’t sell to you without one. I will. You get trade-quality kitchen units at a fair price, with no hoops to jump through.

Manchester Property Types — Kitchen Units That Fit

Victorian and Edwardian terraces (Chorlton, Didsbury, Levenshulme, Longsight, Hulme) — Typically narrow kitchens, often in galley or L-shape layouts. Made-to-order units mean a seamless fit from wall to wall.

Mill conversions and warehouse apartments (Ancoats, Salford, Castlefield, Piccadilly) — Open-plan living with the kitchen as a focal point. My handleless and slab ranges look genuinely high-end in these spaces.

1930s semis (Stockport, Wigan, Leigh, Eccles, Sale) — Greater Manchester has a huge amount of 1930s semi-detached housing. These kitchens are often a good size and benefit enormously from a properly fitted, rigid-built kitchen.

Large detached homes (Altrincham, Hale, Wilmslow, Bramhall, Cheadle Hulme) — These properties often have generous kitchen-diner spaces. Island units, larder towers, and full-height wall cabinets all work well in these layouts.

City centre apartments (Deansgate, Northern Quarter, Spinningfields, MediaCityUK) — Developer kitchens are often the first thing buyers replace. Rigid-built units are a significant upgrade.

New-build estates (Salford Quays, Trafford, Leigh, Wigan) — Made-to-order means you can get exactly the kitchen you want, not what the developer chose to install.

Kitchen Unit Styles for Manchester Homes

I supply doors that work across Greater Manchester’s entire housing stock. The shaker ranges are a natural fit for Victorian terraces in Didsbury and Chorlton, while the handleless matt and gloss options look incredible in Ancoats mill conversions and modern city centre apartments. Here’s a quick overview of the main ranges — click any image to see the full spec and colour options.
