Painted Shaker Kitchens for Manchester & Greater Manchester

Manchester’s housing stock is perfectly suited to the shaker kitchen. The red-brick Victorian terraces of Chorlton, Didsbury, and Levenshulme, the Edwardian semis of Sale and Stretford, and the period properties of Hale, Bowdon, and Altrincham all share an architectural character that the painted shaker complements beautifully. The five-piece solid wood door with its recessed centre panel creates a structured, classic aesthetic that sits naturally alongside original features — ceiling roses, picture rails, tiled hallways — without feeling dated or out of place.

SJB Trade Kitchens is based in Oldham, right in the heart of Greater Manchester, with a showroom at Unit N, Central Trading Estate, Coulton Close, OL1 4EB. We supply painted shaker kitchens with genuine solid wood doors in any colour. The heritage palette is particularly popular across South Manchester — Mole’s Breath, Elephant’s Breath, and Sage are the go-to choices in Chorlton and Didsbury, while the deeper tones of navy and charcoal dominate the larger kitchens of Hale and Bowdon.

Every unit is rigid built with 18mm Egger and Kronospan carcasses, 18mm solid backs (not hardboard), and Blum soft-close hinges with Blum Antaro drawer boxes as standard. As a kitchen specialist working directly with our manufacturer, we price painted shaker kitchens at 30-50% cheaper than Howdens. Call 0161 509 4221 or visit our Oldham showroom.

Painted Shaker vs Foil Shaker — Your Manchester Options

We offer two shaker door options, and understanding the difference will help you choose the right one for your Manchester home.

Painted Shaker (solid wood doors): The premium option. Genuine five-piece solid wood door construction, painted in any colour of your choice. The natural wood grain shows subtly through the paint, giving each door a depth and character that no synthetic material can replicate. Painted Shaker is the choice for the Victorian terraces of Chorlton and Didsbury, the Edwardian semis of Sale and Urmston, and the period homes of Hale and Bowdon — properties where authenticity and quality matter.

Foil Shaker (smart mid-range alternative): A five-piece shaker door in a foil finish, available in matt or painted woodgrain effect. Foil Shaker delivers an excellent visual result at a lower price point than painted solid wood. The colour is consistent throughout — it does not chip or peel like vinyl. For landlord kitchens across Manchester’s rental market, investment properties in Salford and the Northern Quarter, and family homes where durability and budget are the priority, Foil Shaker is the smart choice.

Both options are built on our rigid 18mm carcasses with Blum soft-close as standard. Visit our Oldham showroom or call 0161 509 4221 to see samples of both.

Why You Should Avoid Vinyl-Wrapped Shaker Doors

Many kitchen suppliers across Manchester offer vinyl-wrapped shaker doors as their budget option. We strongly advise against them. The vinyl film is glued onto an MDF core, and in the hot, humid environment around ovens, hobs, and dishwashers, the adhesive fails. The vinyl peels away from the door edges, lifting and bubbling in a way that is impossible to repair — the entire door must be replaced.

Most vinyl-wrapped shaker kitchens begin to look tired within 5-7 years. The edges curl, the surface develops a cheap, hollow feel, and the kitchen ages rapidly. In Manchester’s busy family homes — particularly the open-plan kitchen-diners that are now standard across Chorlton, Didsbury, and Sale — vinyl-wrapped doors simply do not hold up to daily life.

SJB does not offer vinyl-wrapped doors. Our Foil Shaker is available at a comparable price with dramatically better quality and longevity. If you have been quoted for a vinyl-wrapped shaker kitchen elsewhere in Manchester, call us on 0161 509 4221 — we can almost certainly offer you a superior alternative at a similar price.

Frequently Asked Questions — Painted Shaker Kitchens Manchester

What is the difference between painted shaker and foil shaker?

Painted Shaker uses genuine solid wood five-piece doors, painted in any colour. The natural wood grain shows through the paint, giving real depth and character. Foil Shaker uses a five-piece door with a foil finish in matt or painted woodgrain effect — it is a smart mid-range alternative at a lower price point. Both are vastly superior to vinyl-wrapped shaker doors. Visit our Oldham showroom to see samples of both.

Why should I avoid vinyl-wrapped shaker doors?

Vinyl-wrapped shaker doors are the cheapest option on the market. The vinyl film peels away from the door edges over time, especially near heat and steam from ovens and dishwashers. Once the edges lift, the damage is irreparable — the whole door needs replacing. Most vinyl kitchens look tired within 5-7 years. SJB does not offer vinyl doors — our Foil Shaker is available at a comparable price with dramatically better quality.

Which painted shaker colours are popular in Chorlton and Didsbury?

The heritage palette dominates in South Manchester. Mole’s Breath, Elephant’s Breath, Sage, and Olive are the most popular choices in Chorlton and Didsbury — these soft, muted tones complement the red-brick Victorian terraces beautifully. For a bolder look, navy and charcoal are increasingly popular in the larger open-plan kitchen-diners across the area.

Can I visit your showroom to see painted shaker samples?

Yes. Our showroom is at Unit N, Central Trading Estate, Coulton Close, Oldham, OL1 4EB — just 15 minutes from Manchester city centre. We have painted shaker and foil shaker door samples on display, along with carcass samples showing our 18mm construction and Blum fittings. Call 0161 509 4221 to arrange a visit.

How quickly can you deliver a painted shaker kitchen to Manchester?

Being based in Oldham, Manchester is our home territory. Delivery across Greater Manchester typically takes around 10 working days from order confirmation — often faster for local orders. Call 0161 509 4221 to discuss your timeline.
