The vinyl film is glued onto an MDF core, and in the hot, humid environment around ovens, hobs, and dishwashers, the adhesive fails. The vinyl peels away from the door edges, lifting and bubbling in a way that is impossible to repair — the entire door must be replaced.

Most vinyl-wrapped shaker kitchens begin to look tired within 5-7 years. The edges curl, the surface develops a cheap, hollow feel, and the kitchen ages rapidly.
