What Is a Preassembled Kitchen?

A preassembled kitchen — sometimes called a rigid-built kitchen — is one where every cabinet arrives at your door fully constructed, square, and ready to install. There is no flat-pack assembly required. No bags of cam locks, no wobbly panels, no Saturday afternoon spent with an Allen key and a set of instructions that make no sense. Your fitter simply positions the units, levels them, and secures them to the wall. It is faster, stronger, and produces a noticeably better finished result than any flat-pack alternative.

I’m Steve, and I run SJB Trade Kitchens from our showroom in Oldham. I’ve been in the kitchen trade for over 20 years, and I supply preassembled kitchens directly to homeowners, builders, and developers across the UK. Every kitchen I supply is made to order, rigid built, and delivered within 10 working days. If you have been quoted for a flat-pack kitchen from Howdens, Wren, or Magnet and you want something genuinely better — you are in the right place.

Preassembled vs Flat-Pack Kitchens — What Is the Difference?

The difference between a preassembled kitchen and a flat-pack kitchen is significant — and it is not just about convenience. It affects the strength of the cabinets, the quality of the finished installation, and how long your kitchen will last.

Flat-pack kitchens arrive in pieces. The panels, shelves, and backs are packed flat and need to be assembled on site by your fitter — or by you, if you are doing it yourself. The carcasses are typically held together with cam locks and dowels. They can work loose over time, particularly in base units that carry heavy loads like pans, crockery, and appliances. The backs are often thin hardboard panels that flex and bow. Most high-street kitchen suppliers — including Howdens, Wren, Magnet, and IKEA — sell flat-pack kitchens.

Preassembled kitchens arrive fully built. The carcasses are glued, pinned, and squared in a controlled environment before they leave the workshop. They are rigid, solid, and dimensionally accurate. At SJB, we build every unit from 18mm Egger or Kronospan board with 18mm solid backs — not thin hardboard. We fit Blum soft-close hinges and Blum Antaro drawer boxes as standard on every unit. The result is a kitchen that feels premium from the moment you open a door or pull out a drawer.

For your fitter, preassembled units are faster and easier to install. There is no on-site assembly, no risk of a carcass going out of square, and no wasted time. For you, the homeowner, it means a better kitchen that will last longer and perform better — day in, day out.

Why Choose SJB for Your Preassembled Kitchen?

There are other companies that sell preassembled kitchens — but very few offer the combination of quality, value, and personal service that you get with SJB. Here is what sets us apart:

Made to order, not off the shelf. Every kitchen I supply is built to your exact measurements. If you need a 437mm base unit or a 280mm wall cabinet, that is what you get — no filler panels, no compromises. Custom sizes are included in the price, not charged as extras.

Premium materials as standard. All our carcasses are constructed from 18mm Egger or Kronospan MFC board with 18mm solid backs throughout. We fit Blum soft-close hinges and Blum Antaro drawer runners on every unit — the industry benchmark for quality and durability, backed by a lifetime guarantee.

Transparent, consistent pricing. I charge the same price to everyone — homeowner, builder, or developer. There is no trade account, no haggling, and no “sale” that conveniently ends next week. My prices are published, honest, and available all year round. You will typically save 30–50% compared to the big high-street names on a like-for-like basis.

Personal service from start to finish. When you contact SJB, you deal with me — Steve. I have been in this trade for over 20 years, and I personally oversee every order. I offer a free design service using CAD software, and I am always available to answer questions, talk through options, and make sure you get exactly the kitchen you want.

10 working day lead time. Once your order is confirmed, your preassembled kitchen will be delivered within 10 working days. That is one of the fastest turnarounds in the industry for a fully rigid-built, made-to-order kitchen.

Preassembled Kitchen Quality — What You Get as Standard

Every preassembled kitchen from SJB comes with the same high specification — no tiers, no “good, better, best” pricing games. Here is exactly what is included as standard with every order:

18mm Egger or Kronospan MFC carcasses — full 18mm board throughout, including solid 18mm backs. This is the same specification that premium kitchen brands charge two or three times more for. The result is a genuinely rigid, heavy, solid unit that will not flex, bow, or deteriorate over time.

Blum soft-close hinges and Blum Antaro drawer boxes — fitted as standard on every unit. Blum is the industry benchmark for quality and reliability. Their hinges and drawer runners are smooth, silent, and backed by a lifetime guarantee. This is not an upgrade — it is included in the price.

Fully assembled and ready to install — every unit arrives rigid built, squared, and ready for your fitter to position and secure. There is no on-site assembly required, which saves your fitter time and ensures a consistently high-quality finish.

Over 300 carcass colour options — we offer one of the widest ranges of carcass finishes available anywhere. Whether you want a classic white interior, a matching colour, or something more distinctive, we can accommodate it.

Custom sizes at no extra charge — every unit is made to your exact measurements. Non-standard widths, heights, and depths are all included in the price. No filler panels, no compromises.

How Much Do Preassembled Kitchens Cost?

It is one of the first questions I get asked, and it is a fair one. The honest answer is that the cost of a preassembled kitchen depends on several factors: the size of your kitchen, the number of units you need, the door style you choose, and any bespoke sizing requirements. A smaller kitchen with 8–10 units will obviously cost less than a large L-shaped or U-shaped layout with 20+ units and premium doors.

What I can tell you is that SJB kitchens are typically 30–50% cheaper than the equivalent specification from the big high-street names like Howdens, Wren, or Magnet — on a genuine like-for-like basis. The reason is straightforward: we supply direct, with transparent and consistent pricing all year round. There are no expensive showroom overheads, no sales teams on commission, and no inflated “list prices” designed to make a discount look generous. The price I quote you is the price you pay — and it is the same price I charge everyone.

If you want a proper quote tailored to your kitchen, just get in touch. Send me your measurements and your preferred door style, and I will work it out for you — no obligation, no pressure, no surprises.
