Foil Shaker is a genuine step above vinyl-wrapped shaker doors — the colour is consistent throughout, it does not chip or peel, and it delivers an excellent visual result at a lower price point than painted solid wood. For homeowners who want the shaker look with a tighter budget, Foil Shaker is the smart choice. Vinyl-wrapped shaker doors are the cheapest option on the market, and they look it. The vinyl film is glued onto an MDF core, and over time — particularly in the hot, humid environment around ovens, hobs, and dishwashers — the adhesive fails. The vinyl begins to peel away from the door edges, lifting and bubbling in a way that is impossible to repair. The only solution is to replace the entire door.

Most vinyl-wrapped shaker kitchens begin to show signs of deterioration within 5-7 years. The doors develop a tired, worn appearance, the edges curl, and the cheap, hollow feel becomes more apparent with age. In a busy family kitchen, vinyl-wrapped doors simply do not last.

Every SJB kitchen is rigid built — fully assembled in the workshop, not flat-pack. Our carcasses use 18mm Egger and Kronospan board with 18mm solid backs (not hardboard).
